Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026.
QuoteDesk (“we”) runs quotedesk.ca, a service that connects Canadian journalists with Canadian experts. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. It follows Canada’s federal privacy law (PIPEDA) and, for Quebec residents, Law 25.
What We Collect
- Account details: name, email, password (stored hashed), role (journalist or expert), outlet or organisation, province, beats, credentials and bio.
- Requests and pitches: what journalists post and what experts send in reply.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and pages visited, through server logs and, if you accept them, analytics cookies.
How We Use It
- To run the service: deliver requests to matching experts, deliver pitches to the journalist who posted, and send account emails.
- To screen for abuse: verify journalist accounts, remove off-topic or machine-written pitches, and enforce the pitch cap.
- To send the request alert emails you set up. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, as Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL) requires.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell or rent your contact details.
- Experts do not see a journalist’s email or phone until the journalist replies to them.
- We do not use your pitches or requests to train AI systems.
Where It Is Stored
On servers in Canada or the United States, with our hosting and email providers acting as service providers under contract.
Your Choices
You can edit or delete your account from your dashboard at any time, or email hello@quotedesk.ca. We answer access and correction requests within 30 days. If you are not satisfied you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information.
Cookies
We use a login cookie so you stay signed in, and analytics cookies only if you accept them in the cookie banner.
